
Alleviating peatland fire risk using water management trinity and community involvement

Ecosystem degradation haunts peatland, especially those have resulted from unsustainable practices. A case in Pulau Burung is exemplary; a native water management trinity system brings prosperity to the community. One of its functions included preventing the widespread fire risk in peatland agriculture. It is further supported by community efforts to enforce fitting strategies. This study tries to examine the fire risk reduction also using hotspot analysis by remote sensing and is a collaboration with a researcher from the Indonesian Agency for Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysics (BMKG).
